What is Fascia?

Fascia is a network of layered connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones and joints. Restricted fascia and joint capsules can lead to conditions such as osteoarthritis, painful movement, increased muscle tightness, strains, tendon injuries, headaches, scar tissue formation, decreased blood flow and reduced energy levels.

What are the benefits of FST?

What makes this therapy different from other flexibility programs is that each stretch begins with a light traction of the joint being treated. This allows for a deeper stretch by creating more space in joint. I have worked in multiple modalities of movement for over 28 years.  The moment I walked into the FST (fascial stretch therapy) training facility, I knew I needed to bring this amazing work back to Bowling Green. I started offering FST as soon as I returned from my Level 1 training and have not looked back. I completed Level 2 four months later and will be attending Level 3 by the end of the year (2021).  The immediate results (often after only one session) of FST have been mind blowing…instant relief from sciatic, low back, hip pain for many clients. If you have not experienced FST, it is a MUST.

I have been movement driven for most of my life with an extensive background in professional dance training. Mobility and flexibility have always been a passion of mine, and finding improvement in both of these areas for myself, as well as my students and clients safely over the years has been a priority. Fascial Stretch Therapy does just that in a relaxing, stress free, and mostly passive way, allowing the body to release and lengthen, focusing not on the individual bones and muscles, but the tissue as a connective whole, aka Fascia! After completing my Level 1 Training, I was blown away by the functional changes in mobility I had experienced on my own body as well as those I was working with and wondered, “Where has this been all my life?!” Each body is so unique, and what I love most about FST is that EVERY body can benefit from a session. Whether you are looking to improve your flexibility, focus on specific areas of pain or discomfort, or just want to feel better from head to toe, Fascial Stretch Therapy has been a game changer for me and something I strongly believe is beyond beneficial for everyone, at any stage of life.

What to Expect:

During an FST session, a certified stretch practitioner moves the client’s body in undulating spiral diagonal patterns known as stretch waves, paired with traction to access the joint capsule, the deepest level of fascia. Breathing is synchronized with stretch waves for greater efficiency and an additional therapeutic effect. This therapy is generally pain-fee, thus allowing your body to be in a fully relaxed state.

Clients stay fully-clothed and passive as the therapist performs the assisted stretches. There is no use of massage oils or creams. Clients will leave a session feeling renewed and relaxed.

We offer FST in 30 or 55 minute sessions. For some clients needing a quick fix, we do offer 15 minute sessions.

Note: We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes prior to your first FST session to allow adequate time to prepare for your session. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move freely in and zero to limited body oils and lotions.

You may feel near instant results and / or release, though it can take time and more than one session to peel away layers of tension / tightness from years of progressive stressors and postural issues and begin to feel lasting improvements.
